Holy Fire by Raven Kaldera
This is a choral song for the interfaith service at the Master/slave Conference in Washington, DC., although we're sung it in other places as well. The sheet music is posted here for anyone interested in singing with us. We'll arrange for a rehearsal or two before the conference. In addition to sheet music for the whole song, you can also download sheet music with just one part on it. (Some people find this easier to follow.)
Please email Raven if you are interested in singing with us, so we can tell you when and where rehearsal is!
- Full sheet music

We also have MIDI-type audio files generated by our sheet music software, to help people learn the tune. It isn't a recording with words, just a synthesized piano tune. The MIDIs have been converted to mp3s, so you can play them easily on a variety of devices.

The lyrics are provided below. For the chorus, the altos and basses sing the "And we know..." part, and the sopranos and tenors sing the "Blessed in power" part, with the parts overlapping slightly.
Holy Fire by Raven Kaldera
We come
forth from the shadow’s edge, we carry holy fire.
We
stand tall in the center ground between honor and desire.
We come
forth to cleanse the patterns of many thousand years,
We hold
high the torch of truth in the face of lies and fears.
Chorus:
And we
know (Blessed in power on this
path)
Surrender
is a way of being free (May we be!)
We
drink of the heart where the sacred waters flow,
We come
forth with open eyes, trust above and trust below.
Discipline
is the cup we mold to hold the sea within the sands,
Riverbanks
of deep devotion run between these willing hands.
And we
know (Blessed with power on
this path)
Surrender
is a way of being free (May we be!)
One
before and one behind, we walk on sacred ground,
Bond of
flesh and oath of steel and the circle comes around.
One
life lived on Spirit’s spearpoint and one at Spirit’s heel,
One
road walked in the dust, we learn that it is no shame to kneel.
And we
know (Blessed with power on
this path)
Surrender
is a way of being free (May we be!)
We
breathe spirit into us, and we speak holy words,
Honesty
with no hidden raging and no wounds left unheard.
Raise
these eyes to the far horizon, and together we will run,
Bow
this head to the winds of changing, and the blessing of the Sun.
And we
know (Blessed with power on
this path)
Surrender
is a way of being free (May we be!)
We come
forth from the shadow’s edge, we carry holy fire.
We
stand tall in the center ground between honor and desire.
Final Chorus:
And we
know (And we light the flame
of power)
Surrender
is a flame of holy fire. (Holy fire!)
Holy
fire, Holy fire, Holy fire!
Josh's note to anyone who'd like to sing with us but can't read music
If you can't read music well (or at all) that is okay so long as you can follow along. Download the sheet music for your part and the audio file for your part. See if you can sing along with the audio file. Even if you can't actually read sheet music, looking at how the dots line up with the words can be helpful. If you aren't sure what part you should sing, the soprano part is for women with higher voices, the alto part for women with lower voices, the tenor part for men with higher voices, and the bass part for men with lower voices. If you have a non-traditional gender identity (or an extremely high or low voice for your gender) sing the part that best fits your vocal range. And just let us know if you need help!
